20 No-Candy, No-Clutter Easter Egg Fillers!

New Ideas for Filling Easter Eggs

By Tauri Duer, Publisher, Macaroni Kid Beaufort-Hilton Head April 5, 2017

This list is different! You’ve already seen the lists of trinkets. You know, the stuff you can buy in bulk for 100 in a pack. The problem with those things is that your kids only play with them for a total of 100 seconds, but decide they don’t ever want to get rid of them either. This list focuses on stuff your kids actually want and will use long after the Easter baskets are back in the closet! It includes items for your older, harder to impress kids too.

Enjoy these fresh, candy free ideas that won’t clutter your house! My personal favorite is last!

Easter Egg Fillers:

  • Building Blocks like Legos or Lego Minifigures – Buy a small kit and spread the pieces throughout the eggs, leave the directions in the basket.

  • Miniature Play Pieces like Calico Critters

  • Barrettes or Hair Ties

  • Seashells or Cool stones or Crystals – Make it into a science lesson!

  • A Clue to a Location of a Book

  • Pieces to Play the Game of Jacks – Old fashioned is still fun!

  • Beads and Necklace Making Supplies

  • Silly Putty – This will make them appreciate the daily delivery of the newspaper more.

  • Balloons for Making Balloon Animals – my kids have been teaching themselves how to make their own balloon animals and are loving it! And hopefully they won’t need me to buy them a balloon animal every time we see one in the future. Parenting win!

  • Homemade Coupons – Include things like a Redbox movie of their choice or a day that they don’t have to make their bed.

  • Lip Gloss/Balm or Chap Stick

  • Barbie Clothes

  • Shark Teeth – Bonus points if you find them yourself. :)

  • A Thumbdrive with Music – Buy one or two of their favorite songs as mp3s. Younger kids won’t be excited when they open the egg, but they’ll light up when you play their new favorite song.

  • Nerf Darts – If you have Nerf in your house, you know you need a refill. Where do those things go anyway?

  • Earrings or Jewelry

  • Puzzle Pieces – Keep the picture for harder puzzles and put it in their basket. Spread the pieces between a few eggs. Probably best for older kids that won’t lose the pieces. ;)

  • Ear Buds

  • Batteries – Include one battery per egg. And hopefully you won’t have to go hunting for batteries any time soon!

  • Money – Money makes everyone happy.  And if your kids leave it laying around, you just found money! Hide one with a dollar coin to be the “special” find but use smaller value coins to stretch your buck. Hey, counting those pennies is good practice for your kids!
